FOUR STAGES OF NEP 2020

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is a policy document released by the Government of India in 2020 that outlines the vision for the future of education in the country. The NEP 2020 proposes several reforms to transform the Indian education system.

The policy identifies four stages of education:

  1. Foundational Stage (age 3-8): This stage focuses on the development of cognitive, socio-emotional, and language skills of children. The aim is to provide a strong foundation for further learning.

  2. Preparatory Stage (age 8-11): This stage is designed to introduce students to basic concepts in various subjects. It aims to make learning more engaging and interactive and to prepare students for more in-depth learning in later stages.

  3. Middle Stage (age 11-14): This stage aims to provide a holistic and multidisciplinary education that includes a range of subjects and skills. It also aims to encourage critical thinking and analytical skills in students.

  4. Secondary Stage (age 14-18): This stage aims to provide students with a more specialized education that prepares them for higher education or vocational training. It also aims to promote creativity and innovation in students and to encourage them to be active and responsible citizens.

The four stages of education outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 are designed to provide a holistic and multidisciplinary education that prepares students for the challenges of the 21st century. The policy emphasizes the development of foundational skills, critical thinking, and creativity in students. It also aims to promote an inclusive and equitable education system that addresses the needs of all learners. By focusing on these four stages of education, the NEP 2020 aims to transform the Indian education system and create a future-ready workforce that can compete globally while also contributing to the development of the country.
